The reality of competing in physique shows is knowing that if you are going to do it right then you have to mentally be in it 110%, nothing less. I have set goals for myself before the eyes of women who share similar dreams and I am here to tell you that it is okay to make changes when life throws you a curve ball. I had planned on competing in September but due to the fact that my husband and I own and run our own business I cannot neglect my responsibility to our members and community. I have decided to not compete in September and to focus on maintaining and then competing in October instead.
As a competitor who has long term goals in the sport of NPC Bikini I must pick the shows I want to compete in wisely. It is no good if I go full board and load my plate with so much that it becomes impossible and then I burn out physically, mentally, and financially. I respect the sport too much. I respect my business and my relationships too much. That is why balance is so important life.
Coach Tanji always has the right things to say when I am struggling. I had a great 5 minute pep talk and she really put my decision making in a different light. I am only pushing my next show back 3 weeks. And like Tanji said, "Use this time wisely to focus on what you need to do for your business." Even for Tanji there are times when she needs to focus on her business and then when it's on auto pilot she can go full board competition mode. She also made a good point that she competes at a PRO level and that sometimes she has to suck it up and just do it but at an amateur level like myself, have a lot more things going on and not so much at stake.
Life is always changing and sometimes you can not do the things you want to do but what you have to do. Those things that you have to do however can help us to do the things we want. If I spend time growing my business then I know that it will support me when it's comes time to compete again. Life is impermanent. You must be flexible and willing to ride with the tides of change. Otherwise, you will always feel guilty, sad, angry, etc. if it doesn't go exactly the way you had planned. Go with the flow! Be okay with putting a goal on hold due to important matters in life. Take care of what you need to and then get back on track. If you truly want something most likely you will find a way to it. Look at all those amazing moms for example, who compete. Bravo ladies! You can't blame your children because you had to take some time off from training! Those women take time, as much as they need to and when they are ready they start training again and step on stage looking lean, strong, and beautiful. Moms are an inspiration to me!
So yes, I am taking a little longer of a break but I will still eat well, workout, and never lose sight of my dream.
XOXO,
Abby
